Horoscopes and Astrology

On Sunday August 6, I was interviewed for Korina Sanchez's TV show "Rated K" regarding horoscopes. I wanted to show to all what horoscopes are and how we should approach it. To those who were not able to see the telecast here is the gist of what I said about horoscopes.


Horoscope is not astrology

Horoscope as it appears in newspapers, magazines, TV shows and Radio shows and even from SMS providers is not the whole of astrology. Horoscope is a digested form of astrology which says something about a persons life, sometimes with specific prognostications about love, money, family, health and career matters. However these readings should not be taken fanatically. Horoscopes are generalizations and these should not be confused from a real astrological reading of a person's life.


Newspaper horoscopes in just an early 20th century innovation. Astrology is several thousand years old already.


Horoscopes are not accurate.

In fact, it can only be correct 1/12th of the time. Due to limitation of print space or air time Horoscopes are constructed in such a way that ignores the "time of birth" of a person. This is the factor that would make the reading accurate as it personalizes the readings.


Horoscopes for the year are more accurate than daily horoscopes
Horoscopes for the year that usually comes out every January is more reliable than daily horoscopes. This is because in making yearly (and monthly horoscopes) long-term and therefore stronger astrological indicators are used in contrast to the daily influences that are used in making daily horoscopes. Daily influences are fleeting.


Horoscopes astrologically defined

Horoscopes comes from the words "horos", "copos" which means markers of the hour. In layman's term horoscope is the graphic representation of the planets with respect to time and a specific place on earth. From the horoscope, which is also called the radix or natal chart, an astrologer interprets the meaning of the planets for an individual.


How to make the most of horoscopes

The most accurate horoscopes are those made for your ascendant sign. You need to know your time of birth and find out your ascendant sign. You should read horoscopes based on your ascendant sign. You can even combine the horoscope for your ascendant and sun sign.
