Astrologers Dont Need the 13th Zodiac Sign!

I was interviewed by GMA7 regarding Ophiucus, the alleged13th Zodiac Sign,
the segment will be aired on Monday January 17,between 6am and 8am @
Unang Hirit Channel 7.

The Ophiuchus issue is not new despite the alleged new scientific information.
Ophiucus is a constellation that ancient astrologers who were also astronomers already knew about. There is no 13th zodiac sign, it was not meant to be because though the constellations and the signs use the same names, they are not the same. Astrologers use the 12 zodiac signs not the 12 constellations.The zodiac signs are of equal sizes and is measured from the vernal point whereas the constellations are of unequal sizes. The ancients used this definition (they are aware of the precession of the eqinoxes) because this 360 degree circle divided by 12 equal signs is a reflection of the "Grand Design" in nature that bears the imprint of the "Divine Architect." Modern astronomers by focusing on the physical aspect cannot understand the "logos" behind astro-logy.

Astrology works for more than 2,000 years and it still works up to this very minute, there is no need for the 13th zodiac sign.

The story of Jollibee Foods Corp. is filled with the typical struggles any ordinary small business encounters, but two things stood out – these are the dedication and the work ethic of its founder, Tony Tan Caktiong , and that made the big difference.

Caktiong started the company in 1975 with a small two-branch ice-cream parlor. It soon became the Philippines’ largest food network with branches worldwide including China, USA and the Middle-east.

Today is the birthday of Alejandro Lichauco, author of the “Nationalist Economics”, a book that traced the economic development of the industrialized countries and more importantly, he showed how and why the Philippines failed to industrialize despite the lead we had over South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia in the 50's. I believe that this book is very important now as we can gain insights from this book on how to address the issues of the 21st century. I wrote in Astro-time 2008 that the economic downturn can become an opportunity for us to catch up, but we have to work double time.

Happy Birthday Mr. Lichauco ! And may you have more years to live and so that you guide us. I hope you can update and reprint your book so that a new generation of Filipinos will be more prepared to face the challenges that we are facing and what they will face - so that the country will be more successful.

The Astrology of a Rock Historian

It's National Heroes day and we are thankful for the sacrifices made by many individuals who devoted their lives to the service of the country and the emancipation of our race. There were many of them who died without ever seeing Inang Bayan free. Some of them are famous but most of them are not. Their heroism may have been forgotten if not for the efforts of historians who keep the memory of our heroes alive and important in our era. One such historian who have done much in our time and maybe whose name will reverberate for the rest of the rest of the 21st century is Ambeth Ocampo, considered as a historian who has achieved a rock star status due to his growing cult followers.

It interesting to note that though worlds apart – the astrologer and the historian share the same passion to study the past. Both dig facts that they can present to the present generation of readers with the intention to make the future better.

The reason why we have few historians is obvious, it seems to be a job that an ordinary Filipino would never dream of. In a country envisioned maybe by of one of the most intelligent human beings that ever walked the earth, historians are seldom read outside of the school. In a country of non-readers dreaming to become a historians is not just foolish and if you come from the lower rung of society it maybe even be considered as madness. An astrologer would naturally look at the concept of destiny to try to answer such as question. To put it bluntly, some are meant to be a historian while are others are meant for other things.

So you want to be a historian? Let see what makes a historian tick

Aside from the scholastic credentials, which can help one progress in the academic world one must at least have substantial wealth to start with to free oneself from the worries of day to day living. And more importantly, a simplicity of life that makes one unattached to the trappings of materialism. Coming from a well-off family and living as a monk for a few years contributed a lot in the mental development of Ambeth Ocampo. The key here is the word development, Greek astrologers/philosophers assert that recognizing one's destiny isn't the ultimate goal and it isn’t as easy as it seem, you have to “choose” whether or not to live out what the three daughters of Fate have sewn for you. We have to be thankful that Ambeth Ocampo have chosen (after initial doubts, mistakes, setbacks and maybe opposition as well) a different path, to become a different kind of historian.

Certain astrological factors seem to be important for the gargantuan tasks of digging, preserving and reconstructing the past for the sake of the future generation.

The most important traits that a budding historian must posses are dedication and determination, which in astrology are the distinguishing character traits of those who are born with dominant fixed signs. By dominant, what is meant is not just the Sun sign based on the month one is born but based on position of other planets on one’s complete (computed) astrological chart.

The fixed signs are: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius.

It should be noted that at least four of the Philippines' top historians belong to the fixed signs. Teodoro Agoncillo belongs to Scorpio, the sign associated with research. Horacio dela Costa belongs to Taurus, the sign of the preservation of forms. I'm including Alejandro Lichauco another Scorpio, who have done a great job of researching and writing the history of the country's economic development from the time of American occupation till the 80's. And off course Ambeth Ocampo, who belong to the sign Leo, the sign that wants us to make proud of our heritage.

In Astro-time* 2009, wherein I discussed the zodiac signs of wealthy nations, I emphasized the importance of the fixed signs in instilling the love for the country and in promulgating nationalistic state policies. It should be noted that it was a Scorpio president, Carlos P. Garcia, who promulgated the Filipino First policy in the 50's and it was Quezon (Leo) who made us proud of our language. Ambeth Ocampo, living out the function of Leo, is now making the new generation aware and proud of our history.

Another must-have trait for budding historians is the love for knowledge and information. This is the trait of the other notable historian Gregorio Zaide, who instilled in the minds of several generation of students the need to know important dates and personalities in our history. It is the function of the air signs (like Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) to gather and disseminate information. This is an important step in history.

Success comes when you love what you are doing. For historians a prerequisite is the dedication and love for the country. The sign of patriotism is Cancer and we have Carmen Guerrerro Nakpil in our midst whose personal biography is like a historical account of the nation's history. In Ocampo's chart Cancer is likewise strong - his Venus is in Cancer at the top of his astrological map.

Another very important traits that every historian must have is the love for things connected with the past and the ability of work alone for a prolonged period of time. This trait is connected with the sign Capricorn and its planetary ruler – Saturn. Both of these factors are associated with time. Carlos Quirino had his Sun Capricorn. Ambeth Ocampo have both Saturn and Jupiter in Capricorn, the sign of history.

Ambeth: The Rock Historian

To be a rock star historian is a different matter. His public talks are always jampacked even if attendees have to pay and fall in line. Many wonder what made Ambeth Ocampo so popular. Those who have attended his classes and lectures coined a term “the Ambeth Ocampo” experience. He can truly connect with his listeners and thru this connection, he directs them to important issues about the country's history. If rock stars use the power of sound to capture the minds of their audience, Ambeth uses the power of words coupled with laughter to drive home a point. You will go out of his lecture with a smile and a desire to join him in answering questions such as what Rizal ate for breakfast. You are then hooked, wanting to hear more, read and learn more.

The astrological explanation is that aside from having all that it takes to be a historian, he has a high rate of compatibility with the country's horoscope chart, if we are going to use the July 4, 1946 horoscope, which the author has been using for some time.

Prominent in the astrological map calculated for the exact time and date of his birth are the signs of our famous heroes like Del Pilar (Virgo), Mabini (Leo) and off course Rizal (Gemini).

Three major points in Ambeth's astrological chart: Moon, Mars and Ascendant are in the sign Virgo. His Sun in Leo and his 10th house, which is connected with his career in writing is Gemini. It is also interesting to note that aside from writing Gemini as an indicator of career can also indicate public speaking and teaching.

The sign Gemini is doubly important in this analysis for it signifies not just what Ambeth does, but even the very subject of his life work which the life of Jose Rizal. Ambeth became more popular with the publication of the book “Rizal Without the Overcoat” Where exactly does Jose P. Rizal fit in his chart. Rizal's Sun sign is at 28 degrees and 15 minutes Gemini (at the end of the sign) it is sitting exactly at (MC or midheaven) the top of Ambeth’s astrological chart which is at 28 degrees and Gemini. Simply put it is Ambeth’s destiny to study the life of Rizal. How exact can you get than that? (In succeeding notes I will discuss how Ambeth fits into Rizal's firdaria)

More importantly his connection with the country's chart is the most important factor in making him a rock historian. There is an uncanny close match (conjunction) between his Sun in Leo and the country’s Venus in Leo and not just that that his Venus in Cancer is exactly conjunct the country's Sun Sign in Cancer. Venus is the planet of love and attraction. If Filipinas is a woman – he wouldn't search for any other one to court and to marry.

His Moon Sign in Virgo is also exactly conjunct with the country's Mars in Virgo and by whole sign technique, it is also conjunct with the country's Ascendant sign. The importance of Virgo in our country needs emphasis – the Philippines was ruled for the longest time by this sign. Count the numbers of years when Osmena, Magsaysay and Marcos were presidents and you will get what I mean. Even the foundation date of the Philippine Historical Association is dominated by this sign (Sun, Mars and Venus in Virgo).

If we will use the modern planets, more connections can be seen. Coincidences like these do not occur by random or chance. It speaks of infinite intelligence that brings order in the universe with the use of planetary energies.

Its now the middle of the year and I think its a good time to review what I have written last year. My projection for gold, oil and the stock market proved to be correct. This is what I have written for the stock market in Astro-time 2010:

Stock market turmoil will likely take place again by that time, wherein the dollar can temporarily strengthen...Volatility may surge and the best trading strategy is to trade short-term or do shorting.

Volatility surged in May, to its highest level since last year.

Another stock market turmoil occurred around May 23.

"World economy may again be a concern to investors. Saturn-Jupiter opposition on May 23...may indicate another period of slowing down."

Our first president belongs to the first sign of the zodiac- Emilio Aguinaldo who was an Aries.

The country is ruled longer by the combined terms of Virgo Presidents than any other sign. Presidents Osmena, Magsaysay & Marcos belong to the sign Virgo. This is due to their compatibility to the Virgo ascendant of the July 4 and Virgo Midheaven of the June 12 charts of the Philippines.

We had three Aries presidents, two of them had abbreviated terms. Aries is ruled by Mars, the planet associated with metallic objects that can cut. President Aguinaldo and Estrada’s term were cut short. President Macapagal-Arroyo escaped that fate.

Our sole Leo President worked hard for the Filipino’s right to self-rule. President Quezon while expressing his Leonine trait as self-sufficient also personified the country’s desire for self-governance.

We never had a Sagittarian Chief Executive, despite the sacrifices of some Sagittarians for the country. Instead of presidents, we have Sagittarian heroes like Andres Bonifacio and Benigno Aquino, Jr.

Our first and only Aquarian president, so far, brought back democracy in the country. Aquarius is the astrological sign of democracy.

Ironically to most observers but not to an astrologer – it was during Piscean President Ramos’ term that peace with rebels and separatists was actively pursued and achieved. Ramos was a soldier and Pisces is the sign of peace.

President Roxas, our Capricorn President was tasked to literally rebuild the country from the devastation of war. Capricorn is the sign of construction.

Two of our Scorpio presidents benefited from the death of their successors. Pres. Quirino assumed office after the death of Pres. Roxas. Vice President Carlos P. Garcia, automatically became the country’s President after the death of Pres. Magsaysay. Scorpio is the sign of death.

Forecasting Pacquiao’s Win vs. Clottey Using Medieval Astrology

As stated in my twitter post about 10 hours before the event Pacquiao win is very likely if the event chart is analyzed using the principles of medieval astrology. The principles I applied in making the prediction is based on Guido Bonatti's (translated by Robert Zoller) book discussing the astrology of war and conflict. Bernadette Brady laid out a system on how to apply Bonatti on sports events.

There are two kinds of conflict and whichever way one looks at the Pacquiao-Clottey fight the planetary ruler of Pacquiao wins. This was actually an easy chart to judge hence I did not hesitate to announce my conclusion before the actual fight even if it’s my first time to study a sports event.

Pacquiao is represented by Mars in Leo. Mars is still in partile trine with the part of fortune and is applying to dignified Saturn. Mar is disposed by the Sun which is applying to Mars. Sun ensures victory and good reputation.

Clottey is represented by Venus which is opposition to Saturn is combust.

Castle Besiegement Chart:

If on the other hand the fight is to be considered a Castle Besiegement Event, Pacquiao win is still shown.

In this case Clottey will be represented by Mars and Pacquiao will be represented by Saturn. Though Mars is strong as stated above, Saturn is actually stronger as it is a succeedent house and is dignified by exaltation. Mars is in the 9^th house, a cadent house. More importantly, the benefic planet Jupiter is in the 4^th house representing Pacquiao as the title-holder of the World Boxing Organization Welterweight. With his planets stronger Pacquiao gets to retain the crown and the riches that go with it.

And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

Todo Todo Questions about Astrology

I have to answer two very interesting questions during my recent guesting at DZMM’s radio program Todo Todo.

Is Astrology A Science?
The first one has something to do with a listener’s view that astrology is not a science.

I specifically used the words "scientific" astrological predictions to distinguish astrology as practiced by psychics and the true astrology that is based on a scientific and mathematical study of the heavens in relation to life on earth. A scientific astrological prediction is based on observation and laborious study of the planets and its relation to events on earth. Though I am not saying that astrology is scientific in the manner scientists use the term– I am using science in the general sense. I believe that astrologers can use the term science, just as any moral person can speak about morality without having to be a priest.

Just the same, as in pointed out in an Astro-time 2010 article , there is now a scientific theory, developed by an Dr Percy Seymour, an astrophysicist and a member of UK's Royal Astronomical Society, that tries to explain the mechanism thru which the astrological factors take place.

I believe that with this theory, which the Dr. Percy Seymour calls astromagnetism, it is no longer “scientific” to state that astrology is “unscientific”. The debate is of course far for over, as with every scientific theory. The more important thing is that this theory should at least open the minds of skeptics about the validity of astrology and temporarily refrain them from branding astrology as unscientific till new scientific studies would refute the study made by Dr Seymour. In fact it was only around the 17th century that science and astrology was separated. The likes of Kepler, Tycho Brahe and Galileo were astrologers and astronomers at the same time.

Maybe the theory of Seymour will lead the way for the two branches of knowledge to come together again- in the future.

Did An Astrologer Predict Ondoy?
The second came from Ariel Ureta. Ariel Ureta asked if any astrologer was able to predict Ondoy. I answered that I was not aware of any astrologer who made that prediction but I stated that I was able to predict its after-effects. My forecast for October 2009 is about the loss of trade opportunities as well as dissatisfaction of the people. Billions of agricultural products were destroyed, not to mention property and infrastructure. Up to now, there is dissatisfaction among those affected by the typhoon.

I was able to predict the after effects because my focus in previous years' Astro-time was business and economics. The good news is that in Astro-time 2010 I included astrometeorology. Readers can actually learn basic weather forecasting thru Astro-time 2010.

That was the first time I was asked that question a few days for me to realize that I was in fact able to predict Ondoy, or a very strong weather disturbance as late as 2005, when I made a study on the price of oil. I specifically, pinpointed the month of September from 2006 to 2010 as the month wherein unusually strong typhoons or hurricanes will take place.

Typhoon Ketsana and the Coldness of Saturn

Astrometeorology is an important branch of astrology, that uses astrological principles in predicting the weather. Since the ancient times up to the era of the great astronomers, like Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler, astrologers have always applied astrology into forecasting changes in the weather. Brahe and Kepler (both practicing astrologers) were actually among those who brought this branch of astrology to a higher level since its most basic principles that was laid out by Claudius Ptolemy who wrote the Tetrabiblos in about the second century AD. Kepler included weather forecasting using astrology in his yearly prognostications. It can even be argued that meteorology actually started from astrometerology.

On a Saturn day –Saturday, September 26, the city of Manila, capital of the Republic of the Philippines, experienced its worst flood in 42 years. The planetary positions on that day were like case studies that will clearly prove what Ptolemy wrote about two thousand years ago.

The Wrath of Ondoy
On such typhoon was Ketsana or Ondoy which was formed around September 23 and devastated Metro Manila on September 26.

On the week of September 26, Sun was in Libra, Mars was in Cancer and Saturn was in Virgo and within a close conjunction with the Sun. The two planets responsible for heat were at their weakest zodiacal position. Sun is in it's fall in Libra. Mars is likewise in its fall in Cancer. According to the rules of Traditional/Medieval or Hellenistic Astrology, a planet in its fall will not function properly. In this case the Sun and Mars can't produce enough heat to neutralize rain that were produced since by the conjunction of the Sun and Saturn a few days back. This conjunction was exact on September 18 and according to Japan Meteorological Agency the typhoon originated as a low pressure area on September 23. According to Kepler, Saturn’s moistening power increases as it gets into conjunction with the Sun.

The Moon, which acted as a trigger was also in a weak zodiacal state by September 26. The Moon is another, though weak, source of heat, as it reflects whatever comes from the Sun. The Moon was in Capricorn, squaring the Sun in Libra and eventually opposing Mars in Cancer. Capricorn is a sign ruled by Saturn.

What happened was since the Moon entered Capricorn –rained poured continuously on the night of the 25th. On the September 26 morning, the rain got harder within 6 hours most of Manila was drenched in flood waters. A week after the calamity, many houses were still underwater. According to estimates agricultural losses due to Ondoy reached about P5.4b.

Interestingly Manila was founded with the Sun in Cancer. Philippine’s independence from American rule also has Sun in Cancer. Mars, the lesser malefic was in Cancer and the Moon in Capricorn opposing Cancer.

Prediction About 2008 Crisis From Astro-time 2005

I always believe that prediction is the ultimate test of a science or one particular technique.

In the last quarter of 2004 I made a thorough study of the astrological prediction technique developed by Louise McWhirter in the early part of the 20th century and using that technique I projected that the period from 2007-2009 will be a very bad period for the global economy. This conclusion was also reached by many notable astrologers but using different techniques and astrological charts. According to reports the recession in the USA indeed started in 2007 and was followed by credit and stock market crisis in 2008. As of now, the global crisis is far from over despite the recovery in the stockmarket.

This prediction which was published in Astro-time 2004, was important in a sense that it was done when the technique was no longer in vogue and was adapted in a period prior to the current rediscovery of McWhirter in recent months.

Weeks before the anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, comes an unexpected criticism on this decades-old institution. Moammar Ghadhafi, the leader of Libya, chastised the UN in a privileged speech given on September 23. Ghadafy voiced out an opinion that may be shared though unexpressed by other leaders like him. He believes that the UN is not really representative of a united world because the veto-wielding Security Council treats the rest of the member countries as second-class members. Why? Because these veto power is a privileged of only 5 member counties namely: the Unite States, Britain, France, Russia & China. How can the rest of the world be represented and heard properly. The solution as he suggested is to add more members into the Security Council or to abolish it entirely.

With Saturn about to enter Libra, the sign of peace and the sign of two planets that symbolically characterized the United Nations, Ghadafy's words may become pregnant with meaning. Saturn is the planet that wants to see results. As Ghadafy asserted, UN has failed to prevent in dozens of wars worldwide.

By next year Saturn will conjunct UN’s three planets in Libra – maybe other world leaders will have ideas similar to that recently expressed by Ghadafy. The UN must heed this criticism and look at itself and take Ghadafy’s words as constructive so that it can institute much-needed reforms. Eventually, UN may face its greatest challenge when Uranus enters Aries- the sign of war and the sign opposite of Libra.

Cory – RP’s Mother of Democracy

Barely a week before a powerful lunar eclipse in her Solar Sign Cory Aquino, the country’s Mother of Democracy, passed away. As a teenager in 1986, my voice was among those countless voices that chanted her name in EDSA. She was very instrumental – a key figure in bringing democracy back in the Philippines after almost two decades of Marcos rule.

What is very interesting astrologically in her astrological chart is the prominence of Aquarius – which among other things is the sign associated with freedom and democracy. Cory Aquino’s Sun, Saturn and two asteroids Pallas and Ceres were in Aquarius at the time of her birth.

In mythology, Aquarius is associated with the story of Prometheus who stole fire from the gods and gave it to mankind. This fire can be interpreted as the fire of freedom, democracy or science.

In 1986, American astrologer Zip Dobyns studied Cory’s chart based on the birth data that she got from our very own astrologer Serapin Lanot. Dobyns specialized on the use of asteroids. What she found very interesting is that at the time of the People Power revolution Cory’s progressed Philippina was conjunct her progressed Hathepsut. The progression of planets or asteroids is an astrological timing or predictive technique that highlights certain heavenly bodies at a particular point in time. In this case, the asteroid Philippina may refer to the Philippines. Hatshepsut is the Egyptian Queen who later became a Pharaoh in a male-dominated ancient Egypt. Cory became the first woman President of the country just like Hatshepsut. Dobyns found this very significant for it proved among other things that Cory Aquino have not just help free the Filipinos from a dictator she have also fulfilled her destiny.

With Cory’s passing a guiding light in our country has been extinguished but the message of her life will never be forgotten and her sacrifices for the country will forever inspire us to continue saying “never again!” to dictatorship.

Scandals and Misunderstanding under Mercury Retrograde

The retrograde motion of the planet Mercury finally ended today (May 31) -with another controversy in the offing in the case of the Lakas-Kampi merger.

Around the middle of Mercury retrograde (which started on May 7) the Katrina Halilia and Hayden Kho scandal was blown out of proportion, which according to Lolit Solis- Katrina's manager could have taken a less messy route if Kho have shown more sincerity and apologized properly. Halili, on the other hand , may be in for more agony as Kho in a counter-move, accused her of being a drug user/pusher.

An action taken during Mercury retrograde is likely to get tricky, circuitous and with
more entanglements than one have initially thought of and certainly would never had
expected. Poor Halili, the Senate and media attention have drawn more public
(both male and female) curiosity and attention to the scandalous video.

This astrologer have been writing about the Mercury Retrograde phenomenon for a
few years already and showing how it manifests in the current events. But more
importantly, the author wants to show how readers can use the knowledge of Mercury retrograde to avoid misunderstanding and hassles that could have been avoided by simply waiting when the retrograde is over.

Take the Lakas-Kampi case for instance which took place on May 27 - a few more day's
delay could have prevented Lakas' founder and former President Ramos dissatisfaction in the merger which he described as rushed.

The next Mercury Retrograde is from September 7 to 29, 2009. Be warned.

There is bit of good news for the local markets. The PSE and the Department of Education have recently signed an agreement to teach stock trading along with
financial literacy to 4th year high school students. This will be integrated in the
Araling Panlipunan curriculum.

The effect will be surely be years away but this will surely make the Philippines more competitive in the next decades.

As I wrote in Astro-time 2009, the Philippine's planetary ruler is Mercury and it will be moving out of its weakness this year. That will make the country more qualified to play a greater role in the ASEAN and the world.

I just hope that whatever delays or misunderstanding the Mercury Retrograde brings to this project will not be so bad.

Sagittarian Planets Favor Pacquiao

Manny Pacquio makes Filipinos proud once again. He defeated Oscar dela Hoya in a recent boxing match wherein he displayed the power of his punches delivered with speed. The match was initially thought to be a mismatch as Pacquiao "The Pacman" is fighting a taller and bigger opponent but dela Hoya eventually succumbed to Pacquiao's might.

Is the boxing match mirrored in the heavens?
Yes, eveything is mirrored in the sky. The most significant planetary configuration for the past several days is the a conjunction that highlighted Sagittarius. Sagittarius is the sign of Pacquiao and the presence of three heavenly bodies empowered him. Sun, Mars and Mercury were in Sagittarius. These planets aligned positively with Pacquiao's personal planets but formed a difficult opposition with dela Hoya's Saturn. Saturn limits and restricts, hence dela Hoya was not able to match Pacquiao's moves.

More importantly, Jupiter has been forming a lucky influence on Pacquiao's Uranus since June this year. On the other hand, Dela Hoya is undergoing an ending phase in his Jupiter cycle, which is typically associated with an ending of a phase in a person's career.

Dela Hoya's Sun sign is Aquarius, as stated in Astro-time 2008 this is not the best year for Aquarians, major undertakings should not be schedule this year - next year is their year.

Due to the recent interest in planetary alignments generated by Inquirer's article about the smiley configuration formed between the crescent moon, Jupiter and Venus in the evening sky I've been receiving more inquiries about the meaning of the current planetary configuration on their lives.

Aside from the general statement that the configuration can bring some form of luck to Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. We would need a complete horoscope chart to come up with a complete reading for the rest of the signs. Another important point I want to clarify is that we cannot say that the opposite would be true for other signs
of the sign. By stating that Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are lucky does not necessarily mean that the other signs are unlucky.

The most important planetary configuration in 2008 would be opposition of Saturn and Uranus on November 4,2008... In the stock-market, there can be long-term cycle trough. Historically Saturn opposite Uranus coincides with sharp sell-offs.

The best strategy in the local market is to trade short-term, while for the US market is to develop a trading plan around shorting.

These advises worked well for the US and local stock markets.

The Power of Eclipses

As stated in "What Eclipses Bring", the current Solar Eclipse on August 1 is observable in China, Russia, Northern Canada and Greenland. A Solar eclipse is the "most" powerful factor in astrology. Eclipses bring in extra energy. Events escalate and usually there is a life-changing situation. Just look at the news in the places where the eclipse is visible.

China is of course the center of the world's attention as the Olympics is being held there. An important phenomena occurs today. This is the total solar eclipse wherein the Moon passes over the Sun and the Earth. From our point of view on earth, it appears that the Moon is totally covering the Sun. However, this event is not observable in our part of the world. In fact this eclipse would only be observable in China, Russia, Northern Canada and Greenland. But despite that a solar eclipse is very important astrologically. Eclipses can open new doors of opportunity. The best thing to do now is to be open minded to new ideas and to plan ahead.

Renaissance Children ( Part 1 )

Jose Rizal said that the children are the hope of the future but as much as we want to take his words literally, it was not always generally true - at least in the past hundred years.

Perhaps what he was referring to in that statement was that the children born from 1993 will bring real change to the country. In his essay “The Philippines: A Century Hence” he talked about a different Philippines. This essay was written in 1889. Astrologically, there is a deeper meaning to this idea because of important planetary configurations that occurred in the early 90’s till the early part of this century.

The two most important astrological phenomena in the previous century were the conjunction of the planets Uranus and Neptune and the entry of both planets into Aquarius. Many astrologers take these as an indication that the so-called “Dawning of the Age of Aquarius”, popularized in the 60's, is upon us. The 60’s actually was just a preview. The real “dawning” is now with the introduction of the information superhighway and the rise of the Internet around 1996 when Uranus entered Aquarius. Astrologically, Uranus and Aquarius are associated with knowledge as well as computers and networking. Even the “www” which is written before every website looks like the symbol for Aquarius. However, the “Age of Aquarius” is not to officially begin till the middle of this century.

The conjunction of Uranus and Neptune signifies the rise of a new culture and children born with this signature are very creative, intelligent and spiritual who will initiate new trends and lifestyles when they come of age. They will spearhead new developments in arts, literature, music, spirituality, philosophy and even business as this conjunction occurred in Capricorn, the sign of big corporations. Children of the conjunction are those born from 1993 to 1996.

The influence of Uranus and Neptune in Aquarius on the other hand will put more emphasis computers, science, technology and what are generally termed as alternative lifestyles. Uranus in Aquarius children are those born between 1996 and 2003, while those with Neptune in Aquarius are those born between 1998 and 2011.

To a certain extent children born after 2011 till 2018 would still exhibit the traits of the Children of the Conjunction due to the so-called “mutual reception” between Uranus and Neptune. Together we can term this generation of children born from 1993 to 2018 as the “renaissance generation” of the 21st century. A new age will begin with the world that they will be creating when the cream of the crop of this renaissance generation become leaders and innovators and reformers of society.

Pluto Highlighted in the Sky

As an astrologer, I cannot help but notice events that jive with the current major astrological event. As stated in my book Astro-time 2008, Pluto- the planet of death and transformation, will turn retrograde on April 2. A planet turning retrograde will bring into focus issues connected with that planet. Unfortunately, when a planet is retrograde- its shadow side seems to be more powerful.

Recent events show the effect of Pluto's dark side. Within a span of 3 days the news is filled with renewed threats to world peace. On Friday, North Korea test fired missiles off its West coast. This alarmed Japan, who acted immediately today to fortify its defense system. In the Middle-east fresh fighting have recently erupted.

On the home front the Communist Party of the Philippines have just ordered the NPA to strengthen its forces and to expand its guerrilla fronts to cover the entire country.

Everyone may be aware that we don’t have the same date for Easter. What we all remember is the Easter always falls on a Sunday. In fact, the celebration of Easter is timed on the Sunday that is closest to the Full Moon following the Vernal Equinox. That is why, we don’t have the same date for Easter year by year.

The Vernal equinox is the time the Sun enters Aries, which occurs around March 19-21. This year the Vernal Equinox falls on March 20. The Full Moon occurred on Mach 22 and we have Easter on March 23.

Astrological Meaning of Easter
Astrology is a study on correspondences and meaningful coincidences. There is another reason, other than historical off course, as to why we celebrate Easter during after the Sun enters Aries.

Oi Price Soars to Another Record

You've read it first in Astro-time 2008 that February and March would be a period that oil price will soar. After breaking the $100 mark in Feruary oil is now higher than ever at $108 per barrel. This occurs despite the percieved decrease in demand as US economy slows down. But then as stated in Astro-time 2008 tension in the Middle-east specifically in Israel will give support to oil's rise. After a short period of ceasefire in the last few days another rocket was fired against Israel.

Pluto and the Dollar

Pluto is now in Capricorn and would very soon be in exact opposition to US Dollar's Sun Sign in Cancer. On the daily chart dollar is oversold, but on the weekly it looks like there is more room below. Pluto works slowly but surely and it isnt called the planet of death for nothing.

With Mars ending its retrograde motion in late January, the major astrological propeller for golds rise from August's low is ended. EARLY BEGINNINGS

Astrology developed in the distant past when humankind shifted from the nomadic life and practiced agriculture. In fact, almost every ancient culture has developed an archaic form of astrology, the ancient Filipinos included.

The early inhabitants of the Philippines also developed a form of astrology before the coming of the Spaniards. Their astrological knowledge is now preserved but is relegated as among the superstitious beliefs. The Visayans, the Tagalogs as well as the Ifugaos observed the movements of the moon, stars and found a correlation between these phenomena with planting, reaping, cutting and their other activities.

The next big step in the Filipino's experience with astrology was the publication of an astrological almanac called "Kalendaryong Tagalog" during the early part of the 20th century. The “Kalendaryong Tagalog” gave practical guidance to farmers and fishermen about the best date and time for them to work on their daily tasks.

The “Kalendaryong Tagalog” was developed and published by Honorio Lopez, a patriot who headed the Liberation of Tondo from the Spaniards and who once served as a councilor in the city of Manila. The “Kalendaryong Tagalog” is still available up to this day and is still very popular in the provinces. It can be purchased in Quiapo.

The Makati Hotel Siege: A Preview of What is to Come

Once again the group of Senator Trillanes occupied a hotel in Makati and asked on PGMA to step down and called upon the people to stage another EDSA.

Astrologers do not have a crystal ball, but we look at the astrological charts that are graphical representation of the planetary configurations at a given moment. Based on these charts and in combination of important and related charts, the flow of events can be assessed.

By looking at event chart of the Manila Peninsula Hotel Siege, one thing that stands out is the approaching aspect between Saturn and Uranus. An opposition is a clash between two forces. Uranus is connected with rebels and Saturn is connected with the government. The astrological symbolism is very clear.

Another prominent configuration is Jupiter and Pluto are close to a conjunction and these are in harmony with Venus, the ruler of money. This implies that that the financial backers of this attempted power grad are plenty. However, Mars - the planet that rules the military is retrograde or weak. Guido Bonatti, the medieval astrologer adviser to Italian princes stated in his book that the whoever starts a military action against another when Mars is retrograde (such as now) will loose.

The bad thing for the economy is that in 2008 this opposition between Saturn and Uranus will be recurring several times.

PSEi About to Drop!

The local bourse have been making all-time highs for the past several weeks. This is off course good news to many investors. However, the fun may soon be over as we head to the coming month. Chinese businessmen regard August as the "ghost month." This is a generazation, as it does not hold true that each year August is a bad month.

However, for this year August may be remembered as one of those months. In financial astrology Venus - the planet associated with money will turn retrograde. This signals shifts in the financial markets which can lead to uncertainty.

Readers of Astro-time 2007 may recall that I specifically pinpointed August and September as a very critical period for the stockmarket, especially blue chips.

Looking at the weekly chart of the PSEi, its RSI is falling. There is also a negative divergence.

Last year, when I was writing Astro-time I noticed that my top picks for 2007 : PLDT, PNOC-EDC and SMCB will simultaneously experience a major downward influence in August to September (at most till October). My advise then was to take profit before August.

My advise now remains the same. But there is now urgency.

My Winning Trade

Truly, the combination of financial astrology with technical analysis can be a very useful tool in achieving a very profitable trade. The contest ran thru December 21 to March 20.

Best Buy
My winning trade was CLG, which I started accumulating as early as February 6 and sold all at $7.30 on February 21, a few days after the news came out that is being acquired by AEM.

Timely Exit
What gave me a good lead over others was a very timely sell on February 23 and February 26. Having reached a good profit level on February 22 and 23, I put more weight on the technical picture that set the scenario for technical correction.

Technical Clue
February 26 was the exact day a very bullish Jupiter transit on the Gold chart and gold stocks were not performing very well. Gold and gold stocks were oversold already in the RSI and Stochastic indicators. I took that as a sign that the rise in gold will not continue.

On February 27, the sell-off in the markets and the liquidity problems of investors due to the unwinding of the carry-trade gold stocks went down as well.

Important Lessons
Concentrate on the market that you know best. I concentrated on gold and mining stocks, with a few energy stocks. My Gold astrological chart has been giving me correct price projections for gold for a long time. Majority of gold stocks trail the price of gold except on key turning points such as when it is bottoming out or topping out.

You cannot time every move even if with the use of astrology and even if you do, you cannot time every market. Focus is necessary.

Don’t be too greedy. Sell when there is enough profit. Re-invest your funds in lower-priced stocks.

Follow the technical indicators. A stock cannot rise forever, corrections happen. Having said that not all oversold condition bring a big drop – that is where astrology comes in.

It’s Christmas time once more, its time to gaze heavenwards to give thanks to our creator and at the same time to share time, memories and gifts to friends and loved ones. If you are planning a party or attending one and you may want to have a clue as to how the each of the zodiac signs will celebrate Christmas, let us turn to the stars for guidance.

ARIES
